The Dogs have a voice!
We have been told to wait our turn but we have got lots to say and we need our voices heard! The fluff box on the left of this picture is Monty and the cutie on the right is Louis. Apparently we were named after famous generals.Never mind what is going on all around the world with what they are calling this killer virus, our world has been turned on its head in recent months.
We thought all was well but then it became apparent that Sally, our Mum, she who always thought she should be obeyed at all times was having a really bad time of things. She said she had no work and therefore no money. She said we were at serious risk of being homeless. We couldn't imagine that but clearly she could. Our lives just went on as normal; we still had our treats and walks and, of course, our food which she always used to prepare especially. Then one day she had been crying even more than usual and she shut us in our cages (which we don't mind - it's our private space and we often go in there even without being told) and gave us some biscuits, treats and a bowl of water. That doesn't often happen unless she is going out without us for any length of time and she didn't look as if she was going anywhere. Then she started drinking gin and she didn't look as if she was putting much tonic in it and she was swallowing pills. We knew something was seriously wrong. This went on for a time and then she slumped over the table. As one we threw our heads back and howled as loudly as we could and we didn't stop. Luckily we hadn't been at it too long when this bloke broke in through the back door. We were so shocked we stopped howling. He was wearing a long dress which we have since learned is called a cassock. He took charge at once and it wasn't long before two more people came into the house and took her away. That was the last we saw of her. Apparently although she went to hospital she still died. So sad. But now what? What about us?
Well this chap turned out to be alright. He rang another bloke and got him to come and fix the door and then he rounded up some of our stuff and said we could go and have dinner, bed and breakfast with him at the vicarage. Now we don't walk on our leads together because there is something about it that winds us up and we end up fighting which isn't nice but it is the way of things. However, this bloke wasn't to know that so put our leads on and we decided it was in our best interests not to kick off. So we didn't. We trotted like good'uns and ended up in this big house. We had a good sniff round and then he let us in the garden at the back. That was brilliant except there was a cat there who seemed to think it was his territory. We soon sorted that one out!
We haven't got this man fully trained yet but we are working on it. He doesn't cook for us for instance and it is very unlikely that he ever will but he is pretty generous with the treats and he talks to us a lot which is nice. He talks about his flock but we haven't seen any sheep about the place and frankly, we hope it stays that way. He did think we would be sleeping downstairs in the kitchen but we soon sorted that one out. So we do miss our Mum but he's O.K. and apparently we are here to stay which is good because we are very settled here and comfortable plus the fact that he doesn't cry, doesn't say he's got no money and never says we are going to be homeless and that's a bonus.
We feature in all the books about life in our village; we know most of the other characters in them - they're a funny old bunch but everyone seems to rub along together quite happily virus or no virus. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Rosy+Teale&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 This link will take you to them and other books written by the same person. The four books we are in are in the Coronawar series and feature the word 'assassin' in the title.
We will doubtless have more to say at some point in the future but meanwhile, love, licks and waggy tails from Monty and Louis.
